Workforce Development

The CVSF is funded by the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) to engage local voluntary & community sector (VCS) organisations with the Brighton & Hove Children & Young People's Trust (CYPT) to develop & publicise multi-agency training to achieve a more skilled & integrated children's workforce.

Forthcoming multi-agency training opportunities: We have worked with CYPT colleagues to develop, publicise and support VCS participation in several training programmes for the children's workforce:

  • Core Skills Training Programme: The courses cover effective communication, child development, safeguarding children, supporting transitions and multi-agency working. Details can now be downloaded from this site. Places for Third Sector staff and volunteers are at a reduced rate of £30 per course.
  • E-Safeguarding Course: This computer-based E-Safeguarding course, from the Virtual College, sets out an introduction to safeguarding children. Free places are available to Third Sector organisations and should be booked through SafetyNet: www.safety-net.org.uk contact Sean Scott on 01273 696622 sean.scott@safety-net.org.uk.
  • CAF (Common Assessment Framework) Training: During Auntumn 2008 tens CAF training days are being run across Brighton & Hove. Free places are available to local Third Sector staff and volunteers and should be booked through Lynne Charmer at CVSF 01273 234011, lynne@cvsectorforum.org.uk. See below to download details. The VCS Children's Workforce: In Brighton & Hove there are an estimated 450 VCS organisations (one third of the sector) working directly with children, young people and/or families, with an estimated 1,500 staff and 6,000 volunteers.

CVSF Workforce Development Sub-group: This group steers and informs workforce development activity between the CVSF & CYPT. It supports our elected representatives to the CYPT's Workforce Development Partnership, Local Safeguarding Children Board and the Learning Partnership. (Next meeting Thu 11 Sep'08).
