Core Skills

All training is free until March.

Working with children, young people and those who care for them requires a broad range of skills.  The ‘Common Core’ sets out, under six key areas, the skills and knowledge which everyone working with children, young people and families (including volunteers) should be able to demonstrate a minimum level of competence.   These six areas are:

  • Effective communication and engagement with children, young people, and their families and carers
  • Children and young person development
  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the child
  • Supporting transitions
  • Multi-agency working
  • Information sharing

The Brighton & Hove Children and Young People’s Trust (CYPT), in partnership with the Community and Voluntary Sector Forum (CVSF), has just published the new “Core Skills and Knowledge Programme”. It lists over a hundred training courses, at various levels, for people working with children and young people. Attendance for staff and volunteers from community groups and voluntary organisations is now FREE!!! For a complete programme go to www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/cypworkforce.
