Community Engagement Framework

Brighton and Hove's 2020 Community Partnership (the Local Strategic Partnership) has developed a Community Engagement Framework for the city. The Framework will set out the strategic vision and guiding principles for community engagement within Brighton and Hove and the priority actions to improve engagement activity in the City and is the key reference document for community engagement by the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) and all its members.

As a practical resource it provides a clear definition of community engagement and importantly sets specific standards for community engagement that all Partners must adhere to. The Brighton and Hove Community Engagement Framework will:

  • improve the ways in which citizens and communities can influence and shape services
  • set a common standard for all engagement activity in the city that all partners are signed up to
  • provide more support to communities to resolve their own issues and possibly run services for themselves
  • improve co-ordination of activity in the city between different agencies and avoid duplication of activity, especially consultation
help create better quality services that better meet the needs of citizens and communities
  • supplement statory duties on the council, the Police and Brighton & Hove NHS (formerly the Primary Care Trust) to engage and involve people in the design, delivery and review of services
  • demonstrate that community engagement is not just a buzz word in Brighton & Hove and that there is collective ownership and recognition of its importance.
