Equality Coalition

The CVSF is working in partnership with the Federation of Disabled People to support this network of community and voluntary sector groups and organisations. The Coalition is currently taking forward the Stronger Communities Programme's Equality Plan which has been drawn from meetings, networking events and an equality conference held in 2008.

The Equality Coalition aims to:

• Address issues raised about how equality focused groups can work better together
• Provide a voice for and strengthen the role of voluntary and community sector equality groups and organisations in  Brighton and Hove
• Be more action focused than discussion based

At present, the Coalition is mapping equality and diversity training across the City with a view to developing a shared network that can swap training, make recommendations about best practice and explore the possibility of offering cross sector training services.

 NOTICE:  Strengthening Communities Review

Brighton and Hove City Council are in the middle of reviewing a wide range of work which is carried out by groups and organisations like yours (this is called the Strengthening Communities Review).

What they find out during this review will have a great influence on how BHCC resources are spent in the future. In other words, the review of the activities and work we are all doing now is likely to determine how we are funded in the future.

So that CVSF members can contribute their points to this review, The Equality Coalition is convening a meeting of communities of interest groups (that's all of you !). The meeting takes place on Friday 23rd July 2010 at the Friends Meeting House, Ship Street, Brighton  BN1 1AF   from 11am - 1.30am (lunch and networking 12.30pm - 1.30pm)

It's worth noting that funding of existing commissioned engagement activity will come to an end in April 2011. Two important areas of this work include the representational work led by the Community and Voluntary Sector Forum (including the work of the Stronger Communities Partnership, its sub-groups - Stronger Neighbourhoods Group and Equality Coalition - and Stronger Communities Programme), and the community development support to neighbourhoods.

In the light of the Chancellors Budget Statement yesterday, the EQC can't stress enough how important it is to come along and participate in this discussion.  It really is important that your group has a say about the Review and has the opportunity to influence the outcomes and recommendations.

Full details about the review, how it is being carried out, what its objectives are available from this link

Please Keith Beadle if you are coming along and pass on to anyone you know that might be interested in this discussion. (Contact details are below)

Let Keith know if you require any help or assistance that will facilitate your attendance and any dietary requirements that you may have.  The venue accessible to wheelchair users.
